“Design for Medicine” Student Designathon

On 2-3 December 2017, we organized a productive student camp named “Design for Medicine” at the Biodesign Center of Acibadem University in Istanbul, where sixty students from eight different universities designed ten authentic products by working around the clock in interdisciplinary teams.

Sixty selected students from the Medicine, Engineering, Design and Business Administration departments of Bogaziçi, Bülent Ecevit, Gazi, ITU, Karabük, Marmara, METU and Acıbadem Universities were splitted into ten mixed teams to collaborate on the real medical need for “an innovative walking aid for post-operative patients”. Over the weekend, they not only brainstormed, designed, prepared business plans and finally presented their projects to the jury, but also received a condensed seminar program on biodesign, business planning, design thinking, additive manufacturing and brand design from subject matter experts.

Many thanks to all contributors including Prof. Dr. Ata Akin, Prof. Dr. Bülent Ekici, Dr. Ali Aydeniz, Cengiz Kurtoglu, Gökçe Gün, Gökhan Yurdumakan, and Autodesk Student Experts Büsra Çakici, Furkan Günal, Yigit Kurtis.
